I’m hereto put forward the question; which film do you prefer – Alice in Wonderland the cartoon by Disney or the 2010 live action Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton.
The first was and remains a cult classic to many, with a number of fans still following the film which turns 60 years old next year. Meanwhile, the remake (re-re-re-remake if you count the many attempts at portraying the Lewis Carroll classic) this year seemed to garner a fair bit of criticism from reviewers.
That doesn’t mean that the 2010 Alice in Wonderland is a failure, because it still grossed $780 million. But it does have an IMDB rating of 6.9/10, which gets pipped to the post by the Disney cartoon version which scrapes together a score of 7.4.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to a mix of personal preference and love for nostalgia.
